Role Snapshot

You’ll help Aerostacks improve and stabilize its radar-based snow sensing system. The product is a sensor mounted on a snow groomer, designed to analyze snow layers, ice, density, and moisture while the vehicle is moving, using Ground Penetrating Radar.

This role is for a hands-on Senior RF / Radar Engineer who has experience debugging real RF hardware — not only running simulations. You’ll help diagnose practical RF issues, improve signal quality, optimize antenna and probe geometry, and guide the next iteration of the radar system toward reliable performance in real snow conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and reduce crosstalk between transmitter and receiver
  • Identify and mitigate reflections, resonances, noise, and unwanted coupling
  • Improve the quality, stability, and clarity of the radar signal
  • Evaluate and optimize antenna placement, probe geometry, and RF system layout
  • Recommend practical solutions for shielding, RF absorbers, grounding, and isolation
  • Design and document test procedures for validating radar performance
  • Support the transition from prototype to a more stable, field-ready radar system
  • Collaborate with mechanical and hardware contributors on enclosure, mounting, and integration constraints
  • Recommend specific improvements for the next hardware iteration

What You Bring

Technical Toolkit

  • Strong understanding of RF, microwave, or radar systems
  • Hands-on experience with real RF hardware, not only simulations
  • Experience with antennas, shielding, measurements, and RF debugging
  • Ability to work with noisy or unstable signals and identify root causes
  • Familiarity with measurement equipment such as spectrum analyzers, VNAs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, or similar tools
  • Practical understanding of trade-offs between RF performance, mechanical integration, and field usability
  • Ability to create clear test setups, validation procedures, and engineering recommendations

Professional Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in RF, microwave, radar, sensing, or related hardware systems
  • Proven experience debugging and improving physical RF hardware systems
  • Experience working with systems affected by reflections, resonance, coupling, noise, shielding, or antenna placement
  • Ability to work quickly, practically, and independently in an early-stage hardware environment
  • Clear communication style and ability to explain technical findings to a small multidisciplinary team
  • Startup mindset and motivation to solve an unusual, real-world sensing problem

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with Ground Penetrating Radar, radar sensing, geophysical instrumentation, or similar systems
  • Background in automotive radar, defense radar, industrial sensors, telecom RF, or scientific instrumentation
  • Experience with ruggedized, outdoor, or vehicle-mounted hardware
  • Basic understanding of radar signal processing or sensing applications
  • Experience supporting early-stage hardware teams from prototype toward product
  • Interest in mountain environments, snow science, robotics, drones, or field testing

Languages

  • English - B2 (must have)
  • Slovak - C1 (optional)
